17th century English lantern clock
This brass English lantern clock is signed and dated on the fret (= bell gate) IT 1665 and on the dial. The movement probably had a balance wheel for the going train, indications of this can still be found in the movement. In the 18th century, the going train was converted to an anchor escapement with a long pendulum. This was more common and is a modernization that ensured that the clock ran more on time and therefore became more reliable. The lantern movement has the typical construction of going and striking mechanisms one after the other and the gears are locked between styles. Below you can see the images.
