Amsterdam standing watch Otto van Meurs
Amsterdam grandfather clock signed Otto van Meurs Amsterdam.
Otto van Meurs is a famous clock and watch maker from Amsterdam who lived from 1714 – 1783 (according to E.Morpurgo “Dutch clock and watch makers from 1300)
Judging by the style, this clock comes from the third quarter of the 18th century.
The special thing about this clock is that the owner is still a descendant of Van Meurs and this clock has always remained in the family. As a result, the clock has always been treated with respect, which in turn contributes to its special condition now.
This beautiful clock has a beautiful, elegant painting at the bottom of the dial with a so-called penny moon integrated into the scene, which depicts the phases of the moon. The silver-plated chapter ring is located in the arch of the dial. The dial was somewhat faded when I was commissioned with damage to the painting and oxidized and damaged silver plating. It was then decided together with the owners to restore the dial and movement. The painting of the dial has been skillfully restored by a specialist. A selection of photos from before and after the restoration can be seen in the photos below.
