Comtoise – tower clock, 2nd half of the 19th century

This timepiece that once served as a small tower timepiece and was closed all around by sheet iron to keep dust and dirt out of the timepiece has changed into an open house timepiece and placed on an iron trestle.
The timepiece has run for about 30 years. My help was called in because the clock stopped working.
The oil had dried up, the grease had hardened and the watch was dirty and oxidized.
The going train is equipped with a pin or scissor escapement Žchappement and the movement has counter palling. The modified striking mechanism only strikes the hours in full on the hour.
It was interesting and enjoyable to work on this beautiful quality timepiece.
The first three photos show the condition as the timepiece came to me. In the photos that follow, the movement has been cleaned and polished, lubricated and re-adjusted.
