French Louis XVI mantel clock
Beautiful French Louis XVI mantel clock with ormolu frames signed Viger Paris.
The mantel clock is signed on the dial and exceptionally on the back of the movement. Viger was a well-known clockmaker in Paris. This mantel clock can be called a textbook example of the Louis XVI period (1774 - 1792) with all the style features of that time such as bows, rosettes, elegant garlands and festoons, pearl rims, urns and vases. These frames are always fire-gilt and are usually mounted on white marble. The dials are always white enamel. In the center of the case below the dial we see a fire-gilt plaque with a representation of frolicking putti.
