Tips for using your clock.

The concepts of restoration and repair overlap in the sense that they are both about restoration. The term repair is more applicable to mechanical timepieces that were produced in a factory in the 20th century and do not yet have a significant historical context.

1. Aligning the hands

The hands of your clock always move forward and never backward. Turning it backwards can cause damage to e.g. the striking mechanism, possibly the date device or the pointer device or the hands themselves. In most cases you can only move the minute hand forward. It is also important with a clock with a striking mechanism to have the movement strike out at the striking moments.
