Uurwerk Restauratie

Each clock has its own history.

Method of restoration

The term restoration is used when changes are made to a movement/clock so that it is as close as possible to the condition it was in before the restoration at a certain point in time. Before an antique clock comes to me as an assignment, many clockmakers (skilled or unskilled) have had the timepiece checked and repaired over time, the clock has its own restoration history. I am referring to clocks from the 16th to the 19th century.

Always in close consultation

Some repairs from long ago are now also historic and can be maintained if they function properly in the timepiece. Other “solutions” can be discussed with the current owner to replace old repairs. Every clock is different anyway, but also because of its history, so it is always custom-made. In my opinion, it is important to preserve the authenticity of a timepiece as much as possible. Rather replace a damaged part of a gear in a material closest to the original material than make a whole new gear to replace.
